The Desktop Support Technician provides support for the desktop environment and executes IT related projects. Ensures the goals and objectives of the projects are accomplished within a prescribed timeframe and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through appropriate resources. This position also maintains desktop and/or device computing environment by identifying desktop requirements; installing upgrades, monitoring performance.

Essential Functions

  • Performs customization and system administration for Desktop management, task/project management, help desk, work group integration, documentation, and educational software packages.
  • Works with telecommunications to integrate voice, data and video applications on the local and wide area networks. Performs basic telephone maintenance as required.
  • Analyzes, recommends, and evaluates new hardware, software, and communications products for network compatibility and applicability.
  • Develops, maintains and updates a library of technical documentation.
  • Assists in requests for proposals, vendor selection, and contract monitoring.
  • Works with cross-functional teams in the design and implementation of information technology. Assists in the training of other Information Technology personnel to improve their technical skills.
  • Assists departmental development of systems standards, short and long-term goals, project management, and strategic directions.
  • Protects organizations value by keeping information confidential.
  • Keeps current on new developments and techniques in information technology by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
  • Configure and/or supports mobile devices including iPad, iPhones, Androids.
  • This position will be part of the on-call after hours support team.
  • On-call including weekend work as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience


  • 3-5 years Helpdesk / Desktop Support experience
  • A+ Certification


  • IT related Certifications
  • CompTIA Certifications
  • Documentable knowledge of computer software and hardware
  • Knowledge of data communications
  • Desktop OS Support, Problem Solving, Multi-tasking, Quality Focus, Coordination, Technical Understanding, Quick Study
  • Microsoft Windows XP/7/8/10
  • HP LaserJet printers
  • Experience with Mac OS
  • Experience with RF Scanners
  • Experience with Zebra Printers
