Facilities Engineer

The Facility Engineer will provide hands on engineering and maintenance technical support for the planning and implementation of material handling equipment in our distribution center operations. This includes design/build and modification of existing sites. Typical equipment includes racking, shelving, flow rack, carton conveyor and sortation, robots, picking systems (RF, Voice), automated storage and retrieval systems, etc. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization, facilitate technical projects, provide support for equipment, environment, including effective troubleshooting abilities. Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems is a plus.
- Provides equipment and process engineering expertise and leadership at distribution centers where automated material handling equipment from one or more vendors is being implemented.
- Manages the automated equipment vendors to ensure that equipment and software meet the required schedule, functionality, rate, and quality in the as contracted requirements. Leads automated equipment testing across multiple project phases.
- Areas of responsibility include: facility layout, equipment cost estimating, equipment layout, equipment evaluation, vendor management, equipment punch-listing, warehouse control system software integration and testing, and equipment functionality and rate testing.
- Stays up to date on new distribution equipment technologies and best practices across sectors.
- Operates in matrix environment and is an effective partner with numerous other functional groups to deliver results.
- Selects and manages use of external vendors and contractors for engineering and maintenance-related projects.
- Ensures installation, preventative maintenance, operational support analysis, repair, and or troubleshooting activity is properly supported in compliance with engineering specifications, and current Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines.
- Create scope-of-work, bid packages, construction contracts
- Maximize safety, service, quality, and productivity throughout operations in the areas of facilities layout, methods, material handling concepts, and measurements.
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering required
- 5+ years leading Warehouse or Distribution implementations
- Must be able to assume leadership role in a fast paced, team-oriented, environment dedicated to delighting the customer and achievement of safety, quality and productivity goals in a time sensitive environment
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, managers, teammates, and prospective customers.
- Extreme proficiency in MS Office Suite products including MS Project, Visio, and AutoCAD.
- Previous RF, PLC, WMS, WCS, WES experience highly desirable
